Our story

About us

Spanish craftsmanship and tradition since 1970

Three generations dressing the home and Spanish tradition.

Borca is a family-run shop located in the heart of Madrid—just steps away from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor—specializing in *mantillas*, Manila shawls, bridal veils, and embroidered linens. Since 1961, three generations of the same family have worked to ensure that every piece reaches your home with our signature quality and care.

Our commitment has remained unchanged since day one: ensuring every customer is fully satisfied, whether they visit us at Marqués Viudo de Pontejos Street or shop from home via our online store.

Materials, embroidery, and lace

We work with linen, cotton, natural silk, polyester, rayon, and acrylics, and our team will explain the advantages of each material based on the intended use of the piece.

We also help you choose between the different types of embroidery and lace:

  • Embroidery: shadow stitch, cross-stitch, Richelieu, filet, satin stitch, hemstitching and French knots, drawn-thread work, and Florentine stitch.
  • Lace: bobbin, Venetian, tatting, crochet, and mesh.

Our story

Borca was born from the vision of Augusto González Lázaro (Acebo, Cáceres, 1929 – Madrid, 2007). In his hometown in the Sierra de Gata, bobbin lace making was a craft passed down from generation to generation. His parents traveled through the villages of Cáceres and Toledo selling this lace, and as a child, Augusto frequently accompanied them.

In 1961, Augusto and his wife Consuelo moved to Madrid and opened a small shop on Gran Vía, where they sold embroideries from all over Spain: *mantillas* from Granada, tablecloths from Lagartera, bobbin lace, Canarian handicrafts, and Valencian fans.

Over time, both the family and the business grew. Borca was founded and permanently established at its current location—Calle Marqués Viudo de Pontejos, 2, in the heart of Madrid—where it remains today.

Borca today

Today, Borca is in the hands of the third generation. We continue to offer artisanal products and maintain the personal touch that has characterized us from the very beginning.

We invite you to visit our Madrid store, where an expert team will assist you and provide advice on each piece. If you prefer, you can also shop online and have your order conveniently delivered to your home. We accept all major credit cards.
